DEGDER (Disadvantaged Groups Understanding and Social Support Association) was founded in Ankara by a team of experienced and professional lawyers, sociologists, academicians, psychological counselors, child development and rehabilitation experts. This association is a non-profit, non-governmental organization and currently has approximately 100 members. The DEGDER team consists of distinguished professionals who have been working on disadvantaged groups for many years. The association was founded to plan and design quality education programs and methods, and to support disadvantaged groups (disabled, refugees, uneducated youth, long-term unemployed, disadvantaged women, ex-convicts, homeless, those experiencing severe poverty, the elderly, etc.) socially and psychologically. DEGDER has a staff that can achieve all its goals regarding disadvantaged groups and as a team, it has previous studies on all disadvantaged groups. The main purpose of DEGDER is to eliminate the mental, physical and social disabilities of all disadvantaged groups, especially individuals with special needs; to ensure that they have equal rights with all individuals in society, to end the discriminatory practices they are exposed to, to defend individuals with special needs in a life integrated with society and to ensure that all public and private living spaces and services are accessible to everyone in accordance with the principle of universal design. In this context, supporting the social, educational and legal rights of immigrants is particularly at the forefront.
