Necmettin Erbakan University
Necmettin Erbakan University (NEÜ) is a state university located in Konya, Turkey. The university has 20 faculties, 6 vocational schools, 26 research centers, 4 institutes, 4 foreign languages schools, Turkish Music Conservatory and 8 coordination departments such as international relations. Currently, there are 35,171 students in total, including 25,454 undergraduate students, 2,872 graduate students, 5,664 doctoral students and 1,181 pedagogical formation students. In addition to these, there are 1,909 academic staff and 149 administrative staff working at the university. The university is a university that ranks high among other Turkish universities. There is a special education department in Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education. More than 700 students and nearly 20 academic teams work in the Special Education Department. In addition, the university has a research center that conducts research on disabled and disadvantaged individuals. Students of the Special Education Department are ranked first in Turkey in national university entrance exams. The department helps disabled and disadvantaged individuals develop their communication and social skills with other people. The personnel working in the special education center within the university share their experiences in order for disabled and disadvantaged individuals to adapt to the social, academic, technological and physical environment. The teaching staff of the Special Education Department work voluntarily for equal rights and for the society to fully integrate disadvantaged and disabled individuals into all areas of social and economic life. The subjects studied in the special education department are as follows:
- Effective integration and participation of disabled and disadvantaged people,
- Social integration/inclusion of immigrants,
- Social adaptation and comfort of disabled immigrants,
- Personal development of disabled immigrants,
- Professional development of disabled, disadvantaged and immigrant teachers,
- National and international cooperation, integration and attitudes towards disabled people.
The employees in the special education department aim to research and report on such issues. NEU has a very suitable environment for this project. The academic team in the department fulfills the tasks and responsibilities given to them in the project in accordance with the instructions; they are successful in teamwork and each staff member is well-trained and ready to be a leader when necessary. In teamwork, effective coordination and cooperation can be easily established among the teaching staff assigned for each task. The academic staff in the NEU Special Education Department have high potential for effective cooperation and communication with other stakeholders. The teaching staff in the Special Education Department are public servants and have the potential to communicate with other stakeholders at a high level. Therefore, they will be able to guarantee that the content and impact of the activities and project outputs are carried out on effective documentation. The staff in the department also;
- is also very familiar with the issues of non-discrimination (equal consideration) and the promotion of equal opportunities for disadvantaged individuals,
- To be able to provide support to disadvantaged individuals who need the most support, and especially to the informal education of disadvantaged immigrants, through volunteering,
- To encourage the participation of disadvantaged immigrant individuals in EU policies on education, youth, culture, social affairs and employment as a tool for their psychological and social development as well as social progress.
