The University of Maribor is a broad-based institution committed to excellence in education, with departments of Arts and Sciences, Law, Business, Engineering, Medicine and Pedagogy. With over 15,000 students and around 1,000 staff, the University encourages cooperation, competition and multidisciplinarity. The MU has seventeen faculties offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on a full-time or part-time basis. The faculties are located not only in the city of Maribor, but also in other parts of Slovenia. The development strategy and vision of the University of Maribor and its faculties are reflected in the diversity and content of the degree programmes (the content of the studies is based on scientific research and the artistic work of the teachers). The faculties have implemented more than 27 professional Bologna programmes, 55 academic programmes (1st degree study programmes), 71 second cycle (master’s) programmes and 34 doctoral programmes. The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (DBM) is a scientific, research and educational institution and operates many different study programmes, the quality of which is guaranteed by our excellent academic staff. DBM is divided into different departments: Department of Biology, Department of Physics, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and Department of Technical Studies. The faculty develops research mainly in the fields of biology, ecology and environmental sciences, biophysics, systems biology, physics of complex systems, nanotechnology, mathematics, algebra, geometry, topology, engineering, computer science, organic chemistry and educational sciences. The faculty employees are world-renowned scientists and researchers and with their work they bring the faculty to the top in the field of research. Successful research activities can be seen in different projects and publications. One of the research institutions is the Institute of Contemporary Technologies, which cooperates with various higher education institutions and academic associations in different research areas. The cooperation covers a large number of activities, from research projects to joint research projects. In the field of research work, the institute cooperates intensively with the business sector, which forms an important link between education and the labor market. The Institute of Contemporary Technologies is a research institute affiliated with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and works as a center for scientific research in the field of pedagogy, didactics and other technologies, mostly based on artificial intelligence or other expert systems from different scientific fields. We also develop the theoretical framework and practical examples of ICT use across the curriculum, developing knowledge in the form of philosophy of mind and cognitive science, and the educational paradigm linked to this basic knowledge. We are one of the leading research institutes in Slovenia in the field of education, covering formal and non-formal education and teaching methodology. We have over 30 years of research experience in different areas and over 25 part-time research members from different fields such as philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, science and technology.
